Need to look up a Walmart item from a receipt? Whether you're trying to figure out what that cryptic abbreviation actually was, find the UPC for a return, or decode the item number for a price match, this guide covers everything you'll find on a Walmart receipt and how to use it.
Every line on a Walmart receipt follows this pattern:
ITEM DESCRIPTION UPC# PRICE T
Type the 12-digit UPC into walmart.com search — most products show up directly. If not found, try upcitemdb.com or barcodelookup.com for cross-reference. The UPC is universal: any retailer's database can identify the product.
Walmart-specific item numbers (different from UPC) appear on the receipt as a 9-12 digit code. Use Walmart's "Find Item by ID" search at walmart.com/ip/[item-number]. This works directly even without searching.
The TC# (transaction code) at the bottom of every Walmart receipt is the master key. Walmart customer service can retrieve any transaction with the TC#. The TC# is a 20-digit number printed below the barcode — it's also encoded in the barcode itself if you scan it.
Our Walmart receipt maker lets you create a fully editable Walmart receipt with custom UPCs, item descriptions, and TC#. See also lost receipt lookup, purchase history, find my receipt.
